Pacing indicates whether your spend velocity matches the elapsed portion of the billing period:
Target Spend = (Total Budget ÷ Days in Month) × Current Day
Pacing Variance % = (Actual Spend − Target Spend) ÷ Target Spend
Required Daily Spend = (Total Budget − Actual Spend) ÷ Remaining Days
Budget pacing calculates how much of your total monthly ad budget should have been spent by today's date, compares it to your actual spend, and projects your month-end total based on your current daily run-rate. It tells you exactly how much to spend per day for the rest of the month to hit your target budget.
If you are over-pacing by more than 5%, ad platforms will exhaust your monthly budget early, causing campaigns to stop during the final days of the month. To correct it, lower daily budgets across your lowest-performing ad sets or tighten bid caps so spending levels out to your required daily run-rate.
Both Meta and Google use flexible daily budgeting: they can spend up to 25%–75% more on high-opportunity days (like weekends or peak conversion hours), as long as the monthly average matches your limit. However, if campaigns are frequently edited or reset, this can lead to accidental overspending.
